在 2020 年底推出的 Chromecast with Google TV 上市至今已經超過 1 年，有用戶開始投訴規格落伍，尤其是內置儲存量未能追上實際使用需要。網站 9to5Google 日前報導指，Google 正在開發相信是 Chromecast with Google TV 的後繼裝置。
9to5Google 表示 Google 開發中的裝置代號為 Boreal，這個代號與 Google TV Chromecast 軟件有關，而 Boreal 之前亦出現於另一裝置 Sabrina，最後成為了市場發售中的 Chromecast with Google TV。雖然 9to5Google 並未掌握新裝置的硬件規格或配置資料，但相信 Chromecast with Google TV 的後續型號會有硬件上的提升。
其中一項可以肯定的改善，將會是硬件解碼支援 AV1 格式，一個現時 Android TV 要求，但 Chromecast with Google TV 卻欠缺的標準。9to5Google 表示 Google 在今年內推出第二代 Chromecast with Google TV 的機會甚高，不過就未有具體的上市安排資料。
